Eradicate school toilet issues in Vietnam
The project aims to enhance sanitary conditions in school toilets across Ho Chi Minh City, with a particular focus on primary schools in suburban districts.
Raising awareness about hygiene
Besides upgrading facilities, the project also aims to raise awareness and change behaviors of students regarding good hygiene practices and educate teachers on child protection, and the prevention of child abuse.

Impact on student health
9 in 10 children impacted physically and emotionally by poor state of school toilets, causing great concern for parents and students. Some students suffered from constipation and other serious health issues because they are afraid to use the toilets at school.
CURRENT ISSUES
Run-down and degraded school toilet facilities
Many children go to a school with no usable toilet. Many school toilet facilities have been built but are unusable due to lack of proper operation and maintenance.
Inadequate number of toilets in school
The number of toilets in schools does not meet the requirement set out by the Department of Education, leading to overcrowded toilets and long waits for students whenever they need to use the bathroom.
Low awareness of personal hygiene
Students have not been fully instructed on proper way to use toilets and practice hand hygiene.

Renovating, repairing and building new school toilets
The project focuses on building new, repairing and upgrading school toilets in surburban districts of Ho Chi Minh City.

Raising awareness and improving knowledge on hygiene practices.
The project will organize training programs on good hygiene practices and injury prevention for students and school staffs.
